(Arnolds Park)-The Okoboji Foundation has announced that applications are now available for the Youth in Philanthropy Initiative, an annual program for area high school students.

The 2019-20 Youth in Philanthropy Application is available on the Okoboji Foundation website through September 10th, 2019.

Students receive community service hours as they learn about the work of the Okoboji Foundation and other nonprofits in the Lakes Community. Students also participate in fundraising for their own grant process and recommend awards to vital nonprofit projects. In the first 9 years of Youth in Philanthropy, students have raised over $340,000 for community grants steered by student decision.

All high school students interested in personal development, community awareness and leadership skills are invited to apply. YIP participants from previous years are invited to reapply. All applications will be read and scored by the YIP Steering Committee without knowing names of the applicants. Up to 25 students will be selected to participate.

ELIGIBILITY: Students who attend area high schools and are interested in making a lasting positive impact in the Lakes Community are eligible. Applicants should commit to attend YIP meetings one Wednesday per month from 6:00 – 7:15 p.m. from October through May. Applications must be received on or before September 10th, 2019.  Students will be contacted by email and/or phone supplied on application with further information about participation by September 27th, 2019.
