Okoboji Blue Water Festival to include Water Quality Panel Discussion at 1:30 Saturday
(Arnolds Park)-A special panel discussion is on tap during the Okoboji Blue Water Festival Saturday, KUOO's Becky Thoreson has details:
The Okoboji Blue Water Festival will include a panel discussion on water quality issues on Saturday afternoon.
Organizer Greg Drees says, a number of distinguished panelists are set to participate. "At 1:30, we have a wonderful panel of speakers that we've gathered from across the State of Iowa. We have Bill Stowe, the CEO of Des Moines Water Works, David Osterberg, who is a Professor Emeritus of Environmental Health at the University of Iowa, Sean McMahan, the Executive Director of the Iowa Agriculture Alliance, Cindy Lane, the brand new Water Program Director for the Iowa Environmental Council, Joe McGovern, President of the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation, Bruce Trautman, the Acting Director of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, and our own local Mary Skopec, Executive Director of the Iowa Lakeside Lab."
He notes that the panel will discuss several topics. "We'll be talking about Iowa's nutrient reduction strategy, discussing the Iowa water and land Legacy, a little bit about the DNR funding crisis, and all kinds of conservation-minded topics. It should be very interesting."
The Festival will include family-friendly activities, exhibits, speakers, a fishing clinic and the concert Saturday evening featuring Michael McDonald. Admission is free.
