Officials Warn Of New Scam Targeting Back To School Season
Fri 8-19-2016
(Undated)-- Scammers are taking advantage of the back-to-school season in a new scheme to try to rip us off.
The Internal Revenue Service is warning residents about telephone scammers demanding payments for non-existent taxes, such as the “Federal Student Tax”. The agency says people should be on the lookout for IRS impersonators calling students and demanding that they wire immediately to pay a fake “federal student tax”.
If the person doesn't comply, the scammer becomes aggressive and threatens to report the student to police to be arrested.
