Officials Now Say A House Fire Jan. 2nd In Estherville Claimed The Life Of A Man

(Estherville)-- Authorities now say a house fire earlier this month in Estherville claimed a life. 

In a press release this (Monday) evening, Estherville police say the victim of the January 2nd fire has been identified as 69-year-old Paul Ostendorf, who was in the house at the time.

Firefighters were called a little before 4:00 am that morning to the residence at 1414 North 6th Street and found the home engulfed in flames and smoke. Firefighters later recovered Ostendorf's body from the home, which was transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy. Estherville police say as of now the cause of death hasn't been determined yet. 

Authorities say the cause of the fire also remains under investigation.
