O'Brien County Crash Sends One Person To The Hospital After Spending The Night In His Vehicle
(Primghar)-- The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office has released details into a single vehicle crash back on Sunday night that sent one person to the hospital.
Authorities say 42-year-old Tyler Darby of Fort Dodge was driving a 2007 Pontiac southbound on Redwood Avenue when he lost control of the vehicle which went into the east ditch and into a corn field. Deputies say Darby then managed to drive out of the field, causing a significant amount of damage as he traveled back into the road ditch, where he drove backward for about a quarter of a mile trying to get back onto the roadway. After several attempts at doing that, authorities say Darby went to sleep in the vehicle until he was picked up around 6:30 am Monday by a passing motorist who took him to the Sheldon hospital where he was treated for possible injuries.
Upon making contact with him, Darby told deputies he didn’t know who to call on his cell phone, saying he didn’t think it justified a call to 911.
Darby was cited with failure to maintain control and failure to use a seat belt.
Authorities say the vehicle was totaled.
Damage to the corn field was estimated at $330.
The initial incident took place around 10:30 pm Sunday.
