NW Iowa Businessman Originally Charged For Stealing Campaign Sign Also Charged In Thefts Of Newspapers From Stores
(Spirit Lake)-- A northwest Iowa businessman has been charged in the thefts of some newspapers from counters and vending racks at several lakes area businesses.
70-year-old Peter De Yager, owner of the Foreign Candy Company in Hull, was charged in mid-September with 5th degree theft after being identified from security video stealing newspapers from atleast one of the stores. Online court records show De Yager pled guilty to the charge and was ordered to pay a fine, along with an amount of restitution to be determined.
De Yager had previously been charged with 5th degree theft and trespassing for allegedly stealing a campaign sign from a yard in the lakes area in late July. His name had been published for the offense in the newspapers De Yager was accused of stealing from the stores and vending racks.
