North Y Crash Results In Minor Injuries

Mon 3-30-2015

(Spencer)-- Minor injuries were reported Friday in a two-vehicle collision at the north junction of Highways 71 and 18 in Spencer, or the north "Y". Authorities say 43-year-old Melissa Meester of Ellsworth, Minnesota was eastbound on Highway 18 and had stopped at a stop sign, while a semi was attempting to make a left hand turn off of Highway 71 and had stopped in the left hand turn lane. Deputies say the semi couldn't make the turn because of Meester's vehicle. Authorities say Meester then attempted to cross Highway 71 in front of the semi and pulled into the path of an oncoming vehicle driven by 46-year-old Scott Lemke of Spirit Lake.

Meester was taken to Spencer Hospital for treatment of minor injuries; no injuries were reported to Lemke.

A 2000 Buick driven by Meester was totaled; $2,000 in damage was estimated to a 2006 GMC box truck driven by Lemke and owned by The Garage Sale of Milford.

The collision took place shortly before 2:30 p.m.

Meester was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device.
