(Worthington, Mn.)-- Those concerned over revisions being made to a feedlot ordinance in Nobles county will have several opportunities next week to make their feelings known. Public meetings are set for Monday at 2:00 and 7:00 p.m. at the Nobles County Public Works Building in Worthington. Another opportunity will be available at the Nobles County Planning and Zoning Commission meeting at 7:00 p.m. January 27th, also at the Public Works Building in Worthington.
The Nobles County Planning and Zoning Commission has been working on the revision for over a year. County officials say the new ordinance will more closely reflect rules set by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, especially when it comes to manure application. They add it will also create uniformity with neighboring counties in southwest Minnesota when it comes to land application.
Another major change will involve the Board of Adjustment, instead of the Planning and Zoning Commission, to allow a variance when the permitted distance between a feedlot and a neighboring residence cannot be met. Officials say they’re also looking at setbacks from a property line and from the right-of-way on existing farmsteads.
