No Serious Injuries Reported When A Vehicle Goes Through A House In Spirit Lake
(Spirit Lake)-- A considerable amount of property damage was reported when a vehicle collided with a house this (Mon.) morning in Spirit Lake.
Spirit Lake police say 76-year-old James Stevens of Spirit Lake was driving a 2016 Kia Sorento when he lost control of the vehicle after turning south onto Erie Avenue off of Highways 9 and 71. The vehicle traveled through some yards and collided with a street sign. It continued southbound and crossed 20th Street striking an embankment. The vehicle then became airborne and collided with the north side of a house at 411 20th Street. It traveled through the house before coming to rest after exiting the exterior wall.
An accident report says Stevens wasn't taken to the hospital, but about $15,000 in damage was estimated to the vehicle he was driving. Damage to the house was estimated at $50,000; damage to the street sign was estimated at $1,500.
Stevens was cited for failure to maintain control.
Authorities say it was very fortunate in that nobody was in the house at the time of the crash. It happened shortly before 6:30 am.
