Motorcycle Mishap Injures Okoboji Man
Mon 9-21-2015
(Spirit Lake)-- An Okoboji man was injured Sunday after losing control of a motorcycle he was operating on some old railroad right-of-way just north of 2112 15th Street in Spirit Lake.
Spirit Lake police say 68-year-old Steven Pearson lost control of the motorcycle he had been riding on the railbed from Lake Park and struck some large rocks after trying to regain control.
Pearson was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare. There was no immediate word on the nature or extent of his injuries.
Damage to the motorcycle was estimated at $100.
Authorities say the incident is still under investigation.
The mishap took place shortly before 5:00 p.m.
The former railbed is owned by the Dickinson County Trails Board which has long term plans to convert it to a recreational trail. Authorities say anyone who accesses it in the meantime, though, could be subject to trespassing.
