Mipso to perform at Pearson Lakes Art Center November 5th
(Okoboji)-North Carolina's 'renegade traditionalists', Mipso will take the stage at the Pearson Lakes Art Center in Okoboji Thursday evening.
Fiddle player Libby Rodenbough says the group's new album went straight to the top of the Billboard Bluegrass Chart.
"We have an album that came out a few weeks ago, on October 2, called Old Time Reverie. When it came out it debuted at # 1 on the Bluegrass Chart and something like # 20 on the Folk Chart, which is even more competitive. So, we were super thrilled about it. We've been touring for the last 3 or 4 months now on this new album, and we're excited about playing the songs live as well as of course, the chart success."
She notes that the young band is self-managed.
"We're not part of a very slick music-industry team, we're just a self-managed band, so to have success with that industry type of recognition is kind of interesting and unexpected and definitely an honor."
She adds that the group collaborates on their original compositions.
"Our guitar player, Joseph, writes the majority of the songs, but I write some, and my band mate Jacob writes some, and then we do all of the arranging together. That's as important as the songwriting for the way our songs come out sounding. They sort of feel like they're communally written even though the words and the initial structure are usually written by one person."
The show gets underway at the Lauridsen Performing Arts Theatre at the Pearson lakes Art Center at 7:30 this evening.
