Milford Police To Participate In I-PLEDGE Program; Compliance Checks Will Be Conducted On Businesses
(Milford)-- The Milford Police Department is participating in a program designed to keep tobacco, alternative nicotine and vapor products out of the hands of youth.
The department is among those participating in the I-PLEDGE program through the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division. It educates local retailers on the enforcement of Iowa's tobacco, alternative nicotine and vapor products laws. Clerks who successfully complete an online training course and then pass an exam become certified through the program, which allows a retail establishment to use an affirmative defense against a civil penalty if the certified clerk makes an illegal sale.
As part of the program, Milford police will be conducting compliance checks on businesses, utilizing underage customers under the supervision of officers. Police say clerks who make an illegal sale will be cited on the spot.
