Milford Business Owner Receives Special Award
(Milford)-- A Milford businessman who's also a veteran received some special recognition today (Fri.). Representatives of the U.S. Small Business Administration presented Tom Wright, owner of Okoboji Tree Specialists, with an Iowa Impact Award. Jayne Armstrong, District Director for the SBA, says the award is presented each year during National Veterans Small Business Week...
"We have Veterans Day where we thank veterans for their service. But we want to take it one step further at the SBA. We recognize that veterans are just a perfect fit to be entrepreneurs and there are so many that are starting up businesses after active duty or veterans that are starting later mid-career and also military spouses. And so this is a time before Veterans Day for SBA to take, for SBA to designate the entire week, and to recognize the many contributions that the veterans in the communities are having on the American economy."
Wright, an Iraq war veteran, says he was very humbled to receive the award. Wright has owned Okoboji Tree Specialists since 2008...
"Basically I retired from the Army, came to town, was looking to do something else, ended up buying a tree service, started with three of us, and now it grew to there's 13 employees, 13, 14 trucks or so, and we just work honestly, hard, and for the customer."
The SBA Iowa Impact Award recognizes an Iowa small business owner that has received assistance from the agency and its resource partners to successfully grow their business.
