(Milford)-- Milford Boy Scouts will be doing their part to help stock the local food shelf at the Spirit Lake Upper Des Moines Opportunity location. Jason Simpson says they'll be holding their annual “Scouting for Food” event this Saturday in Milford...Scouting For Food01

"Boy Scouts from troop 170 will come around and they will pick up those bags of food. We collect them all in one pick up and take it up to the Upper Des Moines food pantry in Spirit Lake where they'll sort through it and then donate it to families that need it."

Simpson says they'll be collecting non-perishable items...Scouting For Food02

"That needs to be out on the doorstep by 9:00 am and make sure that it's clearly marked that it's for the Boy Scouts and we'll be by to pick that up and we'll get it up to the food pantry. They're requesting some stuff like apple sauce, baked beans, tuna, chicken helper, spaghetti sauce, those kinds of things is what they're looking for, non-perishable items."

A local grocery story is also helping the scouts out with the food drive. Travis Kennedy is the Manager of Sunshine Foods in Milford...Scouting For Food03

"We've got pieces of paper in the store up at the check stand and the customers can come through and buy as many as they want. They're a dollar a piece. You can buy as many as you want and you can write your name on there and we're hanging them up in the store to let everybody know who's helping out in our community and at the end of the program we'll be delivering a bunch of non-perishable food items to the food bank in Spirit Lake."

Kennedy says they'll be running the program through the upcoming weekend.
