Man Wanted In Emmet County Manhunt Has Been Taken Into Custody
(Estherville)-- A man who was the subject of an intensive manhunt involving numerous agencies Thursday near Wallingford has been taken into custody.
Emmet County Sheriff Mike Martens says 45-year-old Joseph Haak of Johnston, Iowa, was arrested shortly after 8:30 this (Friday) morning.
Martens says a citizen spotted a man matching the description of the suspect authorities had been looking for walking westbound in the 3900 block of 250th Street in Emmet county. Additional personnel arrived and secured the scene as Haak was taken into custody.
Deputies recovered additional evidence linking Haak to some other crimes.
Haak was booked into the Emmet county jail on charges of burglary in the 3rd degree in regard to a burglary in Emmet county; along with possession of stolen property in the 1st degree in connection with a U-Haul that had been stolen from Sioux Falls that Haak had been driving. Haak was also charged with theft in the 3rd degree, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving and interference with official acts.
Martens says the case remains under investigation.
