(Spencer)-- A Marathon man escaped serious injury in a single vehicle crash Saturday at the intersection of 260th Avenue and 380th Street in Clay county.

The Sheriff's Office says 19-year-old Jordan Gunnarson was driving a 2005 Dodge Ram when he lost control. The pickup landed on its top in about three feet of water.

Gunnarson was not at the scene of the crash when authorities arrived. He was located later, uninjured.

Gunnarson told deputies he lost control because he was unfamiliar with the area.

Authorities say they did find alcohol in the vehicle, but it was not determined to be a factor in the crash, which took place around 7:15 am.

Gunnarson was cited with failure to maintain control and possession of alcohol under the legal age.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Dickens Fire Department, the Buena Vista County Sheriff's Office and the Estherville Police Department.
