Man Accused Of Trying To Choke A Woman While Allegedly Holding Her Against Her Will
(Estherville)-- Multiple charges have been filed against an Estherville man after police in that city were called to conduct a welfare check on a woman this past Sunday at 514 8th Avenue North in Estherville. Officers knocked on the door of the residence but couldn't get a response. Police later saw a man and woman come out and spoke with the two. The woman accused the man, Virgil Martin, of putting his hands around her neck saying he tried to choke her. She also said she had been held against her will for about four hours and complained of pain in her neck. Officers observed a possible scratch. She was taken to Avera Holy Family Hospital and was checked over and released.
Martin was arrested and charged with false imprisonment and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for burglary in the 3rd degree from Polk county. Martin was booked into jail on a $1,000 cash only bond.
Authorities say the case is still under investigation and that additional charges may be filed.
