Man Accused Of Domestic Assault Briefly Eludes Authorities By Going Into A Corn Field
(Spencer)-- A Fostoria man accused of domestic assault was taken into custody Monday evening after briefly eluding authorities by taking off into a corn field.
The Clay County Sheriff's Office says deputies were called shortly before 7:00 pm to an address in Fostoria after getting a report of an assault. Upon investigating authorities determined a female at that addressed has allegedly been assaulted, and that the suspect, David Schmidt of Fostoria, had fled the scene on foot and received a ride out of the area.
A short time later authorities discovered a broken down vehicle about four miles west of Fostoria. Deputies believe Schmidt had been in that vehicle and that he started walking. Upon seeing them approaching him, authorities say Schmidt took off into a nearby cornfield. He eventually came back out of the field and was taken into custody.
Schmidt was arrested and booked into jail on a charge of domestic abuse assault.
