Major Ice Fishing Tournament Coming This Weekend To The Iowa Great Lakes
(Arnolds Park)-- An ice fishing tournament is coming this weekend to the Iowa Great Lakes. It's being put on by the North American Ice Fishing Circuit. Jack Baker of the North American Ice Fishing Circuit says there's a lot on the line...
"Saturday night we do our rules meeting and teams, local teams, can sign up all the way through Saturday. If they sign up right on Saturday there is a late fee but they can sign up on Friday, no problem. And then Sunday we go out, we compete from 8:00 until 1:00 and then we do our weigh-in at 2:00. That gives everybody a chance to get their equipment put away, get set for the weigh-in. We write the checks and off we go, hand out the awards. The guys that follow the circuit compete heavily for what we call the wood. We have wooden plaques for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and if you have a piece of wood you're in rare company. It's highly competitive. Last week we were up in Alexandria, Minnesota. A very young team, first time they ever came to a tournament, they won the tournament. So locals or new teams have just as much chance. It is ice fishing, so."
There's also a high school division of competition. The youth tournament is tomorrow (Sat.) with the adults Sunday.
