Lower Speed Limits Could Be In Store For Two Heavily Traveled Streets In Okoboji
(Okoboji)-- Lower speed limits could be coming to a couple of heavily traveled streets in the city of Okoboji.
The city council Tuesday evening held the first reading of a proposed ordinance that would reduce the speed limit on a portion of Stakeout Road from the intersection at Highway 71 near McDonalds to Chalstrom Beach Road. The speed limit in that area is currently 35 mph. It would be reduced to 25 mph if the measure receives final passage. A motion to waive the second and third readings of the proposed ordinance change failed to get a second, meaning it will come up again for further consideration at the council's meeting in September.
A proposal to reduce the speed limit on Sanborn Avenue from 35 mph to 25 mph had also originally been attached to the Stakeout Road proposal. But the council voted 3-2 to make that a separate issue. Councilmen Jim Hentges and Walter Mendenhall cast the no votes.
