Local Women Crowned in Iowa Miss Amazing Pageant
Wed 2-22-2017 Spirit Lake,IA
Two local ladies were crowned in the Iowa Miss Amazing Pageant last weekend, KUOO's Becky Thoreson has details:
Two Spirit Lake women will advance to the national competition following the Iowa Miss Amazing Pageant in Council Bluffs.
Nancy Vierkant says her daughter, 19 year old Megan and 28 year old Lynn Murphy both were crowned in the pageant. "Megan Vierkant won the Teen Division, and she competed on Friday night against other ladies and girls from the State of Iowa. And then, Lynn Murphy won the Senior Miss Division, which was a competition on Saturday night, and she also competed against others throughout the State of Iowa. So, there are six age divisions in this Miss Amazing Pageant that will move on to go to Nationals, and so two of those girls out of the six are from right here in Northwest Iowa."
She explains that the new titles include responsibilities for the young women. "They do have an actual Queen Contract that they need to sign when they become Queen. The girls actually have to make an appearance, whether it be in a parade, or going and visiting some businesses or doing some speeches and talks once a month for the next year. They're also required to fund raise and look for sponsors that will sponsor them to go to the national event."
The National Miss Amazing Pageant will be held in Chicago in August.
