Local Museums Awarded CARES Grants
(Des Moines)-- The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs announced today (Thurs.) two area museums have been awarded Cultural Affairs Emergency Relief Grants.
The Rock 'n Roll Music Association and Clay County Heritage were each awarded $4,500 through the program.
The funding is through the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security, or CARES Act.
The grants are intended to support ongoing cultural projects, preserve jobs and keep the doors open at thousands of cultural organizations.
149 grants were awarded to various arts, cultural and humanities organizations throughout Iowa.
A recent survey showed that more than 340 Iowa arts and cultural organizations collectively lost atleast $16.3 million since the pandemic began. Another study by the Iowa Economic Development Authority and University of Northern Iowa revealed that arts, entertainment and recreation were among the hardest hit segments of the nonprofit industry in Iowa.
