Local Lawmakers Weigh In On Governor's Condition Of The State Speech

(Des Moines)-- Local lawmakers are offering their opinions on Governor Terry Branstad’s Condition of the State speech that was delivered before a joint session of the General Assembly this (Tues.) morning at the statehouse in Des Moines. One of the proposals he laid out is to dip into the one cent local option sales tax proceeds for school infrastructure improvements to help fund water quality improvement projects. State Representative John Wills of Spirit Lake says it’s something he’s willing to look into...Speech reaction01    

State Senator David Johnson of Ocheyedan says he’s opposed to the proposal, saying that’s not what the people voted on. Johnson even goes on to say the measure will likely be dead on arrival once it gets to the legislature...Speech reaction02 

The Governor also referenced privatization of the state’s Medicaid system in his speech. Wills doubts the Legislature will have much of a say on that issue. He says it will only come before lawmakers if it can’t do two things...Speech reaction03
