Local Lawmaker Among Those Elected To Iowa House Leadership Team
(Des Moines)-- House Republicans today (Monday) announced they've elected a new leadership team to lead the caucus in the 2020 legislative session.
State Representative John Wills of Spirit Lake has been elected as next Speaker Pro Tem. Wills tells KUOO news he's looking forward to once again serving in a leadership role in the chamber...
"You know it's really kind of a vote of confidence. I've been in a leadership position the last four years and so to move up to the Speaker Pro Tem seat is really a great honor for me and I just feel blessed to be able to serve in that capacity."
Representative Pat Grassley of New Hartford was elected to serve as the next Speaker of the Iowa House and Representative Matt Windschitl of Missouri Valley was elected House Majority Leader.
Wills says the caucus hasn't yet officially laid out its priorities as far as issues for the upcoming session...
"We really haven't had a lot of meetings yet on kind of policy issues, but I can tell you some of the things that I think are going to be hot button, you know maybe like workforce development. That will include like housing, and daycare and all kinds of things stemming from that. Tax issues, you know. There's just going to be a whole gamut of issues that we're going to see as priority issues. But we haven't really flushed out what they're going to look like or where they're going to go just yet."
Wills says they will likely do that between now and December.
