Letter Carriers To Hold Annual Food Drive This Saturday (May 11th)

Tue 5-7-2019

(Spirit Lake)-- Letter carriers nationwide will once again be holding their annual food drive this Saturday. Eric Ostovic of the Spirit Lake letter carriers tells KUOO news the event has become synonymous with this time of year...Ostovic01

"Yeah, it's always the second Saturday in May, and all of the food we collect, it's going to be this Saturday, will stay local. It will stay local in our local food banks to help out the community, the Dickinson county residents that are in need of this service."

Ostovic says there are a couple of different ways in which you can donate non-perishable food...Ostovic02

"They can leave it in or at their mailbox prior to the normal time their carrier arrives on Saturday. Otherwise there will be a receptacle in the lobby this week, and also one on Saturday at the back loading dock Saturday, the day of the food drive, that non-perishable food items can be placed into."

Ostovic says they hope to meet or exceed the amount of food collected last year...Ostovic03

"Normally out of the Spirit Lake office we receive approximately 2,000 pounds of food, so literally a ton of food is donated for this drive every year."

Again all the food that's collected locally goes to the Spirit Lake Upper Des Moines Opportunity food pantry.
