Law Enforcement Agencies To Participate In Special Traffic Enforcement Campaign
(Spirit Lake)-- Law enforcement agencies throughout the region will be participating in a special enforcement campaign that starts Monday, May 20th, and runs through June 2nd. It's being held in conjunction with the Iowa Department of Public Safety and the Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau.
The timing of the campaign comes as no coincidence as the Moemorial Day holiday period marks a big increase in traffic volume, along with a rise in traffic crashes and fatalities. Officials say last year there were four traffic fatalities on Iowa roadways over the Memorial Day weekend.
In addition to seatbelt usage and speed, officers will also be on the lookout for distracted and intoxicated drivers.
In Spirit Lake, police say they'll be keeping an especially close eye on motorists traveling on Highways 9 and 71 through the city limits.
