Lakeside Science Seminar on Bur Oak Blight August 8
Fri 8-4-2017 1838 Highway 86 Milford,IA
(Okoboji)-Bur Oak Blight is the topic at Lakeside Science Seminar on August 8, KUOO's Becky Thoreson has details:
The Friends of Lakeside Lab along with the ISU Dickinson County Extension will present this week's Lakeside Science Seminar on Tuesday evening, with Dr. Thomas Harrington, Professor at Iowa State University, who will be speaking about Bur Oak Blight. "Bur Oak Blight is a leaf disease on the large, former savannah Bur Oak trees that are around. So, these were the trees that would have primarily gotten established when prairie fires were stopped, so we're looking at about 150 year old trees or so that it affects."
He adds that treatment may be effective, but should only be done in the spring. "If you inject too late in the season, after symptoms appear, the fungicide won't go into that tissue that's already infected, it only will go into the tissue when leaves are young and still maturing."
The Lakeside Science Seminar will begin at 7:30 Tuesday evening at Mahan Hall at Lakeside Laboratory.
Admission is free, however reservations are required due to limited seating.
Call Lakeside Laboratory to reserve a seat at 712.337.3669 extension 5
