(Okoboji)-The Lakes Area Young Professionals will hold a virtual benefit for CAASA next month, KUOO's Becky Thoreson has details:
The Lakes Area Young Professionals have announced a virtual 5K to benefit CAASA during the weekend of July 11 and 12.
Board Member Lynae Tucker explains. "We are doing a virtual 5K to raise money for CAASA as well as our non-profit, Lakes Area Young Professionals. The thing that made this come about was, we typically are a networking organization and we help connect people in the first 10 years of their job with other people in similar places in their careers. When we can't meet in person, due to the pandemic, it's been very hard for us to find ways for people to still find community and still support organizations like CAASA that have had to cancel their big fundraisers for the year."
She adds that registration is encouraged by July 1. "You sign up online and the link is on our facebook page. It's $25, and then if you sign up by July 1, we're going to send you a commemorative swag something. That's a surprise for the people who register, but it is where you run the 5K on your own and then you track it with either your phone or Fitbit or Apple Watch or something like that, and then you can upload your time. There will be awards for people who run it the fastest, the slowest, things like that. So, it's all the experience of a regular 5K without the group setting."
