Lakes Area Hockey Association Closing In On Fundraising Goal For Arena Improvements
(Spirit Lake)-- Those overseeing a fundraising campaign for the 3rd phase of a construction project at the Boji Bay Ice Arena in Spirit Lake say they're making headway on their $1.1 million goal. The Lakes Area Hockey Association says it's due in large part to $300,000 in matching funds pledged by lakes area resident Steve Goodenow.
The 3rd phase of the project includes the addition of energy efficient features, replacing dasher boards, handicapped seating and an expansion of the lobby. A designated high school locker room, restroom and shower facilities are also included.
Officials say the facility, initially built in 2012, will also be getting a new name: The Lakes Ice Arena. It's home to the Boji Blizzard youth hockey teams and the Boji Mammoth high school team.
