Lake Park Company Ceases Production After 71 Years
(Lake Park)-- A company that's been in operation in Lake Park the past 71 years has called it quits. ARCO Dehydrating has discontinued production, making it the last alfalfa dehydrating plant in Iowa to shut down.
Plant Manager Steve Krummen says several factors led to the closure, including a decreased demand for dehydrated alfalfa pellets and the increased frequency of ice storms in recent years that can kill stands of the crop.
During its peak times of operations the plant employed 10 full-time and 15 seasonal employees.
