Judge Amends Sentence For Former Spencer Pastor And Dream Center Director
(Spencer)-- A District Court Judge has amended a prison sentence for a former pastor who also served as Director of the former Dream Center in Spencer.
Judge Don Courtney Friday granted Kevin Grimes early release and was placed on probation. Grimes must still register as a sex offender and successfully complete an offender treatment program. Grimes had originally been sentenced May 15thÂ to five years in prison with credit for time previously served and compliance incentives. He was tentatively scheduled for release October 4th, 2019.
The judge revised Grimes’ sentence citing Grimes’ family and financial circumstances as well as his prior criminal record and social history.
Grimes, who was the former pastor of DaySpring Assembly of God Church and Director of what used to be the Spencer Dream Center, was accused of sending inappropriate text messages and lewd images to a young man he was counseling at the time. He was also accused of inappropriately touching atleast one victim.
Grimes was originally charged with four class D felony counts and two aggravated misdemeanor accounts of sexual exploitation by a counselor or therapist. Two of the felony counts and one of the aggravated misdemeanor charges was dropped as part of a plea deal.
Grand Avenue Community Outreach is now operating what used to be the Dream Center in a former hotel building on Grand Avenue in Spencer.
