Joint Meeting Set To Discuss Disposal Of Oil Contaminated Materials At Dickinson Co. Landfill
(Spirit Lake)-- A long awaited meeting involving the Dickinson County Board of Supervisors and representatives of various other entities to discuss the disposal of oil-contaminated material at the Dickinson County Landfill is scheduled for Monday (Aug. 27th).
The material was trucked to the landfill east of Arnolds Park over the past month and-a-half or so from the site of a BNSF train derailment June 22nd of this year near Doon, Iowa.
The agenda for Monday's meeting lists a presentation from DNR officials including a background and timeline, regulatory requirements for Iowa landfills and testing requirements.
Another agenda item consists of a presentation from Waste Management, which owns and operates the Dickinson County Landfill.
The agenda also includes a presentation from a BNSF representative on an overview of the material taken to the landfill and the decision to use the Waste Management facility.
A question and answer session, to be facilitated by the DNR, is the final item on the agenda.
Monday's meeting is scheduled for 10:00 am in the Community Room at the Dickinson County Courthouse in Spirit Lake.
