Jaci Hermstad to receive 9th infusion

Tue 12-17-2019 Spencer, IA

(Spencer)-A Spencer woman who is fighting ALS, or Lou Gehrig's Disease, is traveling to Minneapolis today with her parents for the ninth infusion of the drug that could save her life.

The dose of the drug currently being administered to Jaci Hermstad is six times the original infusion and has led to small improvements in her physical abilities.

Jaci's mother, Lori Hermstad says, doctors have been hesitant to increase the potency of Jaci's drug because of possible side effects. The family hopes to learn more in the next month that will decide what happens with Jaci's future infusions.  Jaci's twin sister, Alex, died of the same disease.
