IUB Announces Extension Of Utility Shut-off Moratorium
(Des Moines)-- The Iowa Utility Board has issued an emergency order extending the end of the winter utility shut-off moratorium from April 1st to May 13th. The extension applies statewide to all eligible customers under the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, along with investor-owned, municipal and cooperative utilities providing electric and natural gas service.
The IUB says the order is based on a statewide disaster emergency proclamation issued March 14th by Governor Kim Reynolds due to widespread flooding.
LIHEAP-eligible customers should contact their utility companies or their local community action agencies to inquire about available energy assistance funding and payment arrangements.
The moratorium typically runs each year from November 1st to April 1st.
