Iowa Public Health Officials Report Highest Daily Death Total To Date In COVID-19 Pandemic, With 18 New Deaths Reported
(Des Moines)-- Iowa is reporting its deadliest day yet in the COVID-19 pandemic, with 18 new fatalities being reported today (Tuesday). That brings the total number of deaths in the state related to COVID-19 to 289.
In addition, the Department of Public Health is reporting 539 new positive cases of the virus, bringing the total number of cases so far to 12,912.
Today's (Tuesday) numbers reflect the first confirmed case in Ida county, leaving Emmet county the only county in northwest Iowa yet to report a positive case.
Health officials say 385 Iowans are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 with 143 in intensive care units and 101 on ventilators.
In northwest Iowa, 73 people are hospitalized with the virus with 41 in intensive care units and 32 on ventilators.
