(Okoboji)-Lakeside Lab is offering their Science on the Menu Series this fall, KUOO's Becky Thoreson has details:
Iowa Lakeside Laboratory will be hosting a Science on the Menu Series this fall, with the first event slated for September 17.
Executive Director Dr. Mary Skopec says her talk will focus on algae in the Iowa Great Lakes. "It's going to be about blue-green algae. I know that people are looking at some of the lakes around The Iowa Great Lakes, and they see kind of a green tint to the water, or a little blue-green tint. So, we're going to talk about what that is, and what the potential ramifications of those algae blooms are and just a little bit of information for people to understand how to stay safe around that and not get themselves or their pets sick."
She notes that the event includes dinner, and reservations are requested by this Friday. "We're asking people to call Lakeside at 712-337-3669, extension 1, and just reserve a spot. You don't have to pay up front, but we do ask people to reserve so that we know how many people are coming so we have enough meals available for people."
Science on the Menu will start at 6 pm on Tuesday, September 17, at Lakeside Lab. Additional events are planned in October and November.
