Iowa Lakes Handbell Choir to perform Holiday Concert December 10

The Iowa Lakes Community College Handbell Choir will present their Holiday Concert on Tuesday evening in Spirit Lake.

Instrumental Music Professor Carol Ayres Steuven says the choir is quite unique.  "We have six octaves of Schulmerich Bass handbells, and we play them all sorts of crazy ways.  We use mallets and we mark them, which means we push them into the foam and make them ring, and we make them sing like Tibetan Bowls, all kinds of fun things.  We'll be playing a bunch of Christmas music, and what's more fun than bells and Christmas music?"

She adds that the choir will be joined by other handbell groups.  "We're going to have a concert at 7 pm at First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake, and we're going to have the First Presbyterian Church Handbelsl play a number, and the Lakes Community Handbells play a number, and we're going to play some numbers, and then we're going to play some numbers together.  It'll be really fun."

A freewill offering will be accepted at the concert.
