(Estherville)-- An inmate who escaped Friday evening from the Emmet county jail was re-captured a short time later.

The Emmet County Sheriff's Office says the prisoner, 19-year-old Divine Watkins of Dover, Delaware, assaulted a jailer and escaped through a door.

Several off-duty Estherville police officers were called in, along with sheriff's deputies.

The Estherville Police Department's K-9 Unit was able to track Watkins. He was located and apprehended shortly before 8:00 pm.

Watkins is now being held on additional charges of escape from custody and assault on persons in certain occupations.

Watkins was originally booked into the Emmet county jail early this past Sunday on a 1st degree burglary charge in connection with an incident around 12:30 am that morning in a dorm room on the campus of Iowa Lakes Community College.
