Increased Law Enforcement Presence on Highway 18 in O'Brien County during Holiday
Thu 12-19-2019 Spencer, IA
(Spencer)-You may notice an increased law enforcement presence on Highway 18 in O’Brien County over the upcoming holiday travel period. That’s because the Iowa State Patrol is partnering with O’Brien County Law Enforcement agencies to reduce the number of crashes on that 24-mile stretch through the holiday season.
The effort is part of the National “Crash Awareness Reduction Effort (C.A.R.E.) Life Saver Week” running from December 20-29.
Traffic crashes continue to claim the lives of over 300 Iowans each year. This enforcement effort is aimed at reducing these numbers, especially during the busy holiday travel season.
Agencies participating include the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, Sheldon Police Department, Hartley Police Department, Sanborn Police Department, and the Iowa State Patrol. In addition to reducing the number of traffic crashes throughout the period, this partnership is designed to increase teamwork and collaboration between agencies with the same traffic safety goals.
Law enforcement reminds drivers remember to buckle up, slow down, avoid distractions, and drive sober this holiday season.
