In- Person Early Voting Now Underway In Iowa; Absentee Ballots Also Now Going Out In The mail
(Des Moines, IA) -- Today (Monday) is the day Iowa election officials begin mailing out absentee ballots for the November presidential election. It is also the first day you can go to your county auditors’ offices – or, satellite locations – to vote early in person. The place to do that in Dickinson county is the former Paul's Body Shop location, just south of the Courthouse in Spirit Lake. The polling site is open Monday through Friday from 8:15 am until 4:15 pm.
County election officials say the requests for absentee ballots are pacing far ahead of previous elections. Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate reported late last week that more than 632 thousand voters have requested an absentee ballot. The COVID-19 pandemic is expected to bring on record numbers of people voting that way, rather than going to the polls in person on November 3rd.
