ILEC Issues Update Saying Its Members Will Likely Experience Rolling Blackouts Today (Tues.)
(Estherville)-- Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative announced this (Tuesday) morning their generation and transmission provider, Corn Belt Power, has declared an emergency and needs to curtail 24 megawatts of load.
As a result, their control center has begun de-energizing substations throughout ILEC's service territory to shed load. The statement says ILEC members may experience an interruption of their electric service for up to 45 minutes today (Tuesday).
ILEC officials say the rolling blackouts are expected to continue throughout the day, adding that the outages are out of their control and will occur with no notice.
They add it's a result of the extreme conditions and a tightening supply of power, which is occurring across a large part of the U.S.
