IGL Sanitary District Warns Against Flushing Wipes & Other Materials Down The Drain
(Milford)-- The Iowa Great Lakes Sanitary District is warning residents not to flush wipes, paper towels and other items down the drain.
Doing so, they say, could result in blockages in the sewer system and/or private grinder pumps.
District Superintendent Steve Anderson says there's concern some people may be substituting the wipes or paper towels for toilet paper. He says they don't break down in the sewer system and instead attract water, grease and other materials that can stick to pipes.
Anderson says a blockage could cause sewage to back up into homes, creating additional health concerns.
