Hy-Vee Recalling 12 oz. Hy-Vee Brand Bagged Garden Salad Due To Possible Contamination
(West Des Moines)-- West Des Moines-based Hy-Vee announced today (Saturday) it is recalling 12 ounce bags of its Hy-Vee brand bagged Garden Salad product across its eight-state region due to the potential that it may be contaminated with Cyclospora.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control Prevention have been investigating an outbreak of Cyclospora in several states in the midwest, including Iowa and Minnesota. Cyclospora is a parasite that can cause diarrhea, loss of appetite, weight loss, bloating, cramping, increased gas, nausea, fatigue, vomiting and low-grade fever. Untreated, symptoms can last several weeks to a month or more.
Hy-Vee officials say they were made aware of the possible contamination after being contacted by Fresh Express, which manufactures the affected product.
Hy-Vee says it has not received any reports of illness linked to consumption of its Hy-Vee Bagged Garden Salad. Customers who purchased the product should throw it out or return it to their local Hy-Vee for a full refund.
