Hy-Vee Expands Recall To Additional Salads Due To Potential For Cyclospora Contamination
(West Des Moines)-- Hy-Vee announced a week ago it was recalling Hy-Vee brand bagged garden salad mix out of concern it could be contaminated with bacteria known as Cyclospora. The grocery chain today (Saturday) announced it is expanding that to include 12 additional salad products. The affected products were shipped to stores in Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and South Dakota.
The expanded recall comes as the CDC and U.S. Food and Drug Administration continues to investigate an outbreak of Cyclospora in a number of states in the region, including Iowa and Minnesota. Symptoms usually occur within seven days of consuming a product contaminated with the bacteria. They include watery diarrhea, weight loss, loss of appetite, bloating, cramping, increased gas, nausea, fatigue, vomiting and a low grade fever. If left untreated the symptoms may last a month or longer.
