Hwy 18 Collision Seriously Injures Motorcyclist
(Spencer)-- Two people were injured, one seriously, in a collision Monday involving a car and a motorcycle at the intersection of Highway 18 and 280th Avenue near Dickens.
The Clay County Sheriff's Office says 52-year-old Mary Skopec of Iowa City was driving a 2017 Kia Sorento southbound on 280th Avenue when she pulled into the path of a 1980 Suzuki motorcycle that was westbound on Highway 18.
The driver of the motorcycle, 32-year-old Jordan Walker of Ames, was taken by ambulance to Spencer Hospital and was transferred by air to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Skopec was treated on the scene by paramedics for minor injuries and was released.
Skopec was cited for failure to obey a stop sign.
The vehicle driven by Skopec was totaled; damage to the motorcycle was estimated at $1,000.
The collision took place shortly after 5:30 pm Monday.
