(Spirit Lake)-- A regional law enforcement tactical team will be doing some training Wednesday (11/11) in Spirit Lake. Shane Brevik of the Spirit Lake Police Department tells KUOO news the HEAT tactical team will be participating in some training exercises in the area of Bank Midwest at the Great Lakes Mall.

Brevik says the tactical unit responds to various high risk situations such as hostage incidents, and in some situations in which warrants are being served or executed.

He says the multi-jurisdictional tact team covers Clay and Dickinson counties in Iowa along with the city of Estherville, and seven counties in southern Minnesota.

The team consists of 22 members from various law enforcement agencies in the area it serves.

So if you see a lot of law enforcement activity Wednesday (11/11) in the area of Bank Midwest and the Great Lakes Mall in Spirit Lake, Brevik says you can rest assured it's only a drill. He says it's training they hope they'll never need. He says the drill will simulate a hostage incident.
