Groundbreaking Ceremony Held For New Okoboji Middle School
(Milford)-- It was a big today (Fri.) for the Okoboji Community School District. A groundbreaking ceremony was held for the construction of the new middle school, just west of the high school in Milford.
Superintendent Todd Abrahamson says the excitement is now growing as the actual construction is about to begin...
"As I said it's now become a reality and the construction process will begin and with Joseph Company being the general contractor, and then we have our track and field project with Beck Engineering and then Beck Excavation. It's exciting, this is all about our kids and the community."
Abrahamson says it's hard to believe it was just a year ago voters in the Okoboji Community School District approved a $25 million bond issue for the project, along with renovations to the football field and track as well as some roofing and HVAC projects...
"It's my understanding it will take about a month of excavation and you'll see things really start to pick up here in the next week or two. And then also on the track and field it looks like next week, weather permitting, they'll start doing the demo of the track and the football field so. They've already started on the high school roof this past week, and once school is out on May 30th then on June 3rd they'll go over to the elementary and start that roof and HVAC process, so."
Completion of the new middle school is scheduled for August 1st, 2020; plans call for 95 percent of the track and field improvements to be done by this coming August 16th.
