Grassland Fire Danger Is High Right Now

Mon 4-15-2019

(Spirit Lake)-- Officials are urging anyone planning to do any burning of road ditches or grasslands today (Mon.) to use extra caution or maybe even delay it.

The National Weather Service says the Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the high category later today (Mon.) due to a low moisture content of dead grasses and other dry organic material.

They say low humidity and higher wind speeds are also contributing to the added danger.

The Milford Fire Department responded to a report of a minor grass fire this (Mon.) morning in the area of 2231 213th Avenue. Firefighters managed to quickly put it out. Authorities say no injuries were reported and no structures were threatened.
