Golden Plains Wind Project In Winnebago & Kossuth Counties Now In Operation
(Cedar Rapids)-- A new wind farm in north central Iowa is in operation.
Officials with Alliant Energy and EDF Renewables announced last week the 200 megawatt Golden Plains Wind Project in Winnebago and Kossuth counties went into operation March 27th.
Officials say the 82 turbines are churning out enough energy to power an average of 37,000 homes per year.
Alliant Energy says they plan to own and operate 1,299 megawatts of wind generation in Iowa by the end of this year. They say it would be enough to power 430,000 homes per year.
