Frigid Weather Sets New Record Lows Over The Weekend
(Spirit Lake)-- Yesterday's (Sun.) frigid weather was record setting. New record low temperatures for the date were set in many area of southwest Minnesota and northwest Iowa, with the mercury plunging to as low as minus 31 degrees in places like Huron, South Dakota and Marshall, Minnesota.
Locally, it was minus 28 here at the studios Sunday morning. Spencer was at minus 27.
That made this (Mon.) morning's three degrees above zero seem balmy in comparison.
The frigid cold came on the heels of a winter storm that dumped about six inches of snow on the Iowa Great Lakes.
The good news is that a warm-up is in store through the balance of the week with daytime highs in the upper 20's and low 30's, with lows pretty much in the teens.
More snow and some potential travel difficulties will be back in the forecast Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
